Stork Aerospace wins important contract for Boeing 747-8 inboard flaps

Fokker Aerostructures, a Fokker Aerospace Group company, has signed an important
contract with Boeing Commercial Airplanes for the design, development,
manufacturing and supply chain management of the initial series of
inboard flaps on the 747-8 Program.

The composite inboard flaps increase the surface of the wing during
take-off and landing. Fokker already holds a successful position
as a Boeing supplier for major complex aerostructures in military
programs. The awarded contract expands this position to a commercial
Boeing program and is therefore considered a milestone for Fokker.
The components will be manufactured in Papendrecht and Hoogeveen. This
two-year contract will include the design and build of all tooling and
the build of the initial series of the Inboard Flaps.

For Fokker Aerostructures this contract is a breakthrough in the relation
with Boeing Commercial Airplanes and recognition of the company's
excellent design and program-management skills as well as its industry
leading engineering capability. The design, development, manufacturing
and supply chain management of the inboard flaps form a perfect match
with the core business of Fokker Aerostructures, being a specialist in
complex lightweight aerostructures.

Fokker Aerospace VP Marketing and Sales, Henk Valk stated: "The selection
of Fokker Aerospace Group clearly reflects the confidence that Boeing has in
our company and in our dedicated specialized employees. This program
offers great potential for the future and positions us even stronger as
a sizable specialist in the structures market.  Following a series of
contract awards from Boeing for 737, 737-800 and 777 wiring, the 737MMA
Raked Wing Tips and the 747 LCF and 747-8 engineering assistance, we are
delighted with this new commitment. It is an honor to be part of the
team working on the 747-8."

747-8 Family: The 747-8 is a family of passenger and freighter
airplanes. The 747-8 Intercontinental passenger airplane is the only
jetliner in the 400- to 500-seat market. Stretched 5.6 m (18.3 ft) from
the 747-400 to provide 467 seats in a typical three-class configuration,
the Intercontinental offers the lowest seat-mile cost of any passenger
airplane. It provides operators a 14,815-km (8,000-nmi) range, 28
percent greater cargo volume and 10 percent lower seat-mile costs
compared to the 747-400. The 747-8 Freighter will fly 8,275 km (4,475
nmi) with a maximum structural payload capacity of 140 metric tonnes
(154 tons). It offers 16 percent more revenue cargo volume than the
747-400F with slightly greater range. The 747-8 Freighter upholds its
predecessor's legendary efficiency, with equivalent trip costs and 15
percent lower ton-mile costs than the 747-400F. The 747-8 Freighter will
enjoy the lowest ton-mile costs of any freighter, giving operators
unmatched profit potential.
