Shenyang Aircraft Corporation and Fokker Aerospace Group to work together in machining for Gulfstream aircraft components
22 November 2005
The Chinese aircraft manufacturer Shenyang Aircraft Corporation (part of AVIC-I) and Fokker Aerospace Group have signed a contract for the machining of components for the Gulfstream G450, the G500 and the G550. The real value of the contract is not the financial volume (less than 1 million euro) but the strategic value, as it is the first concrete result under the umbrella contract that was agreed between Shenyang Aircraft Corporation (SAC) and Fokker Aerospace Group in October 2005.
The order relates to components for the Gulfstream G450, G500 and G550, which were formerly produced elsewhere. For the implementation of the contract SAC and Fokker Aerostructures have formed a joint project team with representatives of both companies, focusing on close relationship in the fields of management and manufacturing. Preparations for the start of work are in an advanced stage, and the parties expect that the first shipments will take place in the middle of 2006.
The mutually complementary competences of both parties enable them to offer an excellent price/quality proposition together with increased production capacity. In addition, their current position in a range of markets and sectors offers a good starting position for the collaboration.
Shenyang Aircraft Corporation (China) is part of the major Chinese aircraft manufacturer AVIC-I. SAC supplies components for commercial aircraft to major aircraft builders in Europe, North America and China, and forms an important link in the industrial cooperation between AVIC-I and the world’s large integrators.
Fokker Aerospace Group develops and produces advanced components and systems for the aviation and aerospace industry, and supplies integrated services and products to aircraft owners and operators. The group achieved a turnover of €495 million in 2004 with 3,182 employees out of the total Stork turnover of €1.82 billion.
