'Aerospace industry Super Bowl' again goes to Gulfstream

Today in Washington, Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation and the G550 Industry Team (Honeywell International, Kollsman, Vought Aircraft Industries and Fokker Aerospace Group) will receive the Robert J. Collier Award for the second time in 8 years. This top award - the US aerospace industry equivalent of the 'Super Bowl' - will be presented (for 2003) by the National Aeronautic Association for the 'application of the advanced design and efficient production technologies, implemented together with innovative international partners' in the large-cabin ultra-long-range Gulfstream G550 business jet.
Because Fokker Aerospace Group is a risk and revenue sharing partner in the G550 program, this award will be presented jointly to the Dutch aerospace company (and for the same reason to the other partners).
 
The Gulfstream G550 is market leader in the 'large-cabin, ultra-long-range business jets' segment, and holds speed, altitude and range records. The aircraft flies at an altitude of 15 km and has a range of 12,000 km (non-stop New York/Tokyo). Customers for the aircraft include large - in many cases American - corporations, national and international governments, aircraft leasing companies, multinationals and prominent individuals. 
 
Fokker Aerospace Group designs, produces and supplies the tail section, the aileron, the main landing gear doors and the floor panels. Both carbon and metals are used for the construction of these components to enable the ideal characteristics to be achieved: low weight, high strength and outstanding aerodynamics. The lightweight floor panels are made using the advanced plastic material 'thermoplast'.
 
Fokker Aerospace Group develops and produces advanced components and systems for the aviation and aerospace industry, and supplies integrated services to aircraft owners and operators. The group achieved a turnover of € 478 million in 2003 with 3,000 employees.
