Flight Operations Woensdrecht

The Flight Operations division is located in building 67 on the Fokker Aircraft Services site at Woensdrecht airport. This location provides the Flight Operations crew with a perfect view over both the entire apron and the threshold of runway 07.

The Flight Operations division Fokker Aircraft Services coordinates all flights that are included in the flight planning of Fokker Aircraft Services (see 1). This also means that Flight Operations provides all information required for both ground- and flight operations (see 2). Besides these tasks, Flight Operations also acts as a Fixed Base Operator of airport Woensdrecht and offers all related services (see 3).
 
1.  Flight coordination

Fokker Aircraft Services Flight Operations division supports all procedures concerning aircraft that visit Fokker Aircraft Services. The related flights are:

  • Maintenance flights, or Functional Check Flights (FCFs)
  • Customer Acceptance flights, or Acceptance Check Flights (ACFs)
  • Certification flights, or Certificate Test Flights (CTFs)
  • Test and Ferry flights (worldwide)
  • Special flights such as VIP flights, Royal flights, Medical flights

Within the near future, services offered by the Flight Operations division will also be extended to the supervision of:

  • Charter flights
  • General Aviation (GA) flights
  • Helicopter flights
  • Freight flights

Related to the supervision of all these flights is the linkage between flight operations and other concerning parties at airport Woensdrecht. This linkage means that the Flight Operations division:

  • Informs Production- and Transport divisions within Fokker Aircraft Services about current flight information (which is also done via the online calender).
  • Intensively cooperates with the Royal Netherlands Air Force (RNLAF) concerning inbound- and outbound flights with destination Fokker Aircraft Services Woensdrecht (this includes Air Traffic Control (ATC), RNLAF Fire department and the Meteorological Division (LMG)).
  • Provides up-to-date flight information to authorities such as the Royal Immigration Division (or ‘Koninklijke Marechaussee’) and customs.

Other responsibilities of the Flight Operations division are:

  • Coordination of the storage of all aircraft on the Fokker Aircraft Services terrain
  • Coordination of aircraft engine runs
  • Arranging catering for outbound flights
  • Issue entrance passes for the military part of Woensdrecht
  • Processing flight- and aircraft data
  • Supervising Compass Swings

2.  Providence of flight related information

Inevitably linked to the supervision and coordination of flights is the provision of all information needed for the proper and safe execution of these flights. The information provided consists of:

  • Meteorological information such as NOTAMs (either from the LMG or from the Royal Dutch Meteorological Institute (KNMI))
  • ATS Flight Plans (ATS FPLs)
  • Weight and Balance sheets
  • Test flight schedules
  • Maintained flight logbooks of Stork/ Fokker Services
  • Aeronautical information

3.  Responsibilities of the Fixed Base Operator Woensdrecht

Because of the increase in flight activities at Woensdrecht airport, the demand  of ground handling activities has also increased. These ground handling activities are executed and coordinated through the Flight Operations division of Fokker Aircraft Services which also acts as the Fixed Base Operator Woensdrecht.

A Fixed Base Operator (FBO) is a service centre on an airport which offers several or more ground handling activities. An FBO may be either be an independent organisation or a division of the airport owner. FBOs occur in many different  lay-outs, depending on the size of the airport and the services that they offer.
